Arm Lift

Age, genetics and weight loss are all causes for loose and/or excessive skin on the upper arm. This skin can be reduced or removed with

Procedure
The procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia. A small incision is made on the upper arm toward the back. Excess fat is removed, the skin is lifted and arm ligaments are tightened. Sometimes liposuction is combined with the procedure for fat removal. Once the incisions are closed, dressing is placed around the arms and a light compression garment may be used for a few days. In some cases, drains are inserted for a day or two.

Recovery
There is the possibility of infection following any surgery. Your surgeon will likely prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to any pain medication. Light bruising and swelling is common for the first few days following surgery. Keeping arms elevated will help increase comfort. Patients generally return to normal activity in 1-3 weeks, but must avoid heavy lifting for up to 6 weeks following the surgery. While every effort is made to conceal the incision, scars are permanent and every effort is made to conceal them, too.
